Origin of an Alternative Genetic Code in the Extremely Small and GC-Rich Genome of a Bacterial Symbiont
The authors describe the genomic properties of an a-Proteobacterial symbiont from the cicada Diceroprocta semicincta and propose gene loss during genome reduction as the common force driving codon reassignment in bacteria and organelles.

A Genome-Wide Association Study of Hypertension and Blood Pressure in African Americans
These findings suggest that pathway and network approaches may be useful in identifying and prioritizing candidate genes/loci for further experiments, in addition to or in lieu of relying solely on replicated variants of moderate-to-large effect reaching genome-wide significance.
A Strand-Specific RNA-Seq Analysis of the Transcriptome of the Typhoid Bacillus Salmonella Typhi
By mapping sequence data to the entire S. Typhi genome, the authors analyzed the transcriptome in a strand-specific manner and further defined transcribed regions encoded within prophages, pseudogenes, previously un-annotated, and 3'- or 5'-untranslated regions.
